Matteo Auguadro, a leading light has gone out

The extended 52 SUPER SERIES family around the globe join the world of grand prix sailing in deeply mourning the very sad untimely loss of our dear, long time leading light Matteo Auguadro. Matteo lost his life doing something he loved, skiing with two like minded friends, caught by an avalanche in the Lepontine Alps on Sunday January 12th.

Matteo was a truly remarkable character, loved instantly by all who met him. With boundless energy he wore his passions luminously, sailing, skiing, cycling, paddleboarding, surfing – the water, the mountains and the outdoors were his perennial playground but his beautiful family, his wife Rachele who he married in 2009 and two his daughters, truly were dearest to his heart and he cherished every minute with them. 

He sailed and performed faultlessly in multiple classes including from 2005 to 2007 on Mascalzone Latino in the America’s Cup but in fact he was the TP52 class in Europe’s most consistently active sailor across the MedCup and the 52 SUPER SERIES circuits. He was more than just a treasured, adored team member in many crews, the ultimate professional and dedicated top level sailor, he was a caring, supportive, funny, self deprecating friend who lived life to the fullest. He was the true leader of the 52 SUPER SERIES cycling peloton, a day without a bike ride in was not a full day in his book.

Matteo will be missed by us all and we will hold him in our hearts, extending our love and compassion to his family and family.
