Luna Rossa take a clear lead in the 52 SUPER SERIES Valencia Sailing Week regatta after a fourth in the third race of the day today, to stand two points clear of Platoon, which scored their second win of the event. But the boat of the day are Eduardo de Souza Ramos’s Onda, which scored a 2,1,3 over the three races.
Platoon were one of the best starters along with Quantum Racing off the pin end of the start line and were able to lead from the first windward mark. Their challenge to Azzurra’s second step on the overall podium was increased when Azzurra were penalised on the approach to the offset mark. Their penalty dropped them to tenth at the leeward gate. But finishing seventh to Platoon’s win now means their second place on the circuit podium is under threat, the German flagged team only three points behind and Luna Rossa’s 1,3,4 sees them also closing on third.
