Luna Rossa won the second race of the day, holding off a spirited challenge from Quantum Racing, but an excellent comeback from Platoon sees them lead the 52 SUPER SERIES Valencia Sailing Week regatta, sharing the same five points aggregate as second-placed Azzurra.
Luna Rossa and Quantum Racing both started off the pin end of the start line and were first and second at the top mark. Platoon were squeezed out at the start and were last across the line. But Harm Müller-Spreer’s team made successive gains on each leg, eighth at the first mark, sixth at the gate and fourth at the final windward turn.
Azzurra were fourth at the first windward mark but passed Alegre to get fourth. So Platoon, 1,4 for the day lead from Azzurra’s 2,3. In the rally for the podium places, Luna Rossa step up to fourth with 6 and 1 for the day, Sled dropping to a costly tenth in the second race.
