When they won Race 5 of the Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Weekm Luna Rossa served up the perfect response to a bitterly disappointing first race in which they were penalised for an incident with Gladiator.
The Italian America’s Cup team started best off the pin-end of the line and owned the early left where there was more wind pressure and a better angle. So Luna Rossa led around the top mark first time up with Quantum Racing second and Azzurra third, Phoenix fourth.
Phoenix got through Azzurra on the next upwind to finish third across the finish behind Quantum Racing and the runaway Luna Rossa, which was more than 300 metres clear at the finish.
But Quantum Racing’s 5,2 for the day keeps them at the top of the standings by four points ahead of Tina Plattner’s Phoenix, which is a clear second ahead of Azzurra.
