Azzurra won the penultimate race of the Rolex TP52 World Championship with Quantum Racing in fifth place, which means the regatta leaders’ margin is cut to just three points.
While Azzurra streaked away to a big win, over 200 metres clear by the finish, Quantum Racing had done a fantastic job on the second beat getting up from sixth at the first windward rounding to be second at the second windward mark. But on the final run, Alegre and Phoenix made a great attack down the right of the downwind. Alegre got up to steal second, Platoon, which worked the left downwind stole third and Phoenix fourth, relegating Quantum Racing to that fifth.
The breeze was around 16-23kts, patchy in the middle of the course, but more is expected for the final showdown.
