With a win in Race 7, the second contest of the penultimate day, Quantum Racing are going into the final day of the Rolex TP52 World Championship with a lead of seven points ahead of Azzurra.
The NW’ly wind was at a brisk 22-23kts on the start line for the race. Quantum Racing showed considerable skill and poise to hold on to a very tough, slim lane off the line between Luna Rossa and Platoon, which they then turned to their advantage by being able to exert an advantage on the left side of the course, leading Luna Rossa around the top mark.
Platoon, by gybing early and going down the left of the run, made a huge gain to lead through the leeward gate, making more than 150 metres back on Quantum Racing. But Quantum Racing chose the right mark looking upwind and were able to get back into Platoon and punish them with a series of tacks as the converged with the starboard tack lay line.
Quantum Racing took the win, their third of the world championship, with Platoon second, Sled just nipping across the finish ahead of the fast charging Luna Rossa. So Quantum Racing lead into the final day with a seven-point lead over Azzurra with Sled 11pts behind in third.
