Luna Rossa bounced back from a difficult opening day at the Rolex TP52 World Championship off Cascais to win the third race. In a more moderate NWW’ly breeze of 14-16kts Luna Rossa got the first beat best, starting nicely to the left of the pack but able to get to the favoured right where they sailed the best layline to round the windward mark just ahead of sister-ship Azzurra, with Onda in third and regatta leaders Quantum Racing in fourth.
Provezza made a sold gain on the second upwind to lead Quantum Racing around, but both Provezza and Onda suffered spinnaker problems and dropped places. With Azzurra second they now lead the world title race by one point from Quantum Racing. The second race of the day is a longer Course 3, which has a three-mile upwind after the start, followed by a six-mile run, which has a midway gate. Windward leeward rules apply in terms of owner-drivers helming.
