Rán Racing, winners at the last regatta in Porto Cervo, carried on their momentum to take first gun in the first race of the Puerto Portals 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week.
After a first attempt at racing had to be abandoned because the breeze went inside out, finally the first race got away in 13kts of breeze from the NW. Rán Racing started nicely off the pin end of the start line but initially lost out to Andy Soriano’s Alegre, which went inshore to the right and gained in the big progressive right shift.
But Niklas Zennström’s team were able to gybe inside them at the offset park, picked a gust and sailed through to lead. The duo were close on the second beat but Rán kept their rival in check down to the last run, with the wind built to 16-17kts at times, to take the win. Alegre took second and Azzurra third.
