Tony Langley’s Gladiator won Race 5 of the Porto Cervo 52 SUPER SERIES Audi Sailing Week and move to third overall on the regatta standings while Quantum Racing’s 1,4 today sees them take over top spot at the midway point of the event.
Gladiator started well and stayed out of the battle for the left side of the course, tactician Ed Baird quickly recognising that the right side had more pressure as the wind on the left faltered.
Gladiator led at the first mark and was able to extend to a handsome lead, once again the leader enjoying a “rich get richer” situation.
Rán Racing could not match their Race 4 victory, as one of the teams pressing to the left when it folded, and finished 10th in the second race and so lie second, two points behind the leaders. Rán and Gladiator share the same 23pts tally, as do fourth-placed Provezza and Bronenosec who are both on 25pts. Just four points separate first from fifth.
