CONGRATULATIONS to Quantum Racing for winning the Quantum Key West Race Week with an emphatic finish to a week of ups and downs.
By winning the one and only race on Final Friday at Quantum Key West Race Week with their nearest rivals more than five places behind, the 2016 52 SUPER SERIES champions Quantum Racing win the first regatta of the new 2017 season.
With Doug DeVos steering, Quantum Racing started well by the committee boat. Provezza, regatta leaders by two points, got closed out by Azzurra and Interlodge as they bid for the pin end. Starting very downspeed they struggled thereafter and rounded the top mark 11th.
In the light conditions, the breeze at 6-8kts from the south, Quantum Racing led at every mark. The close battle for second and third steps on the podium sees Harm Müller-Spreer’s Platoon take second on a three way countback from Rán Racing and Provezza. Azzurra and Bronenosec take fifth and sixth but only two points separate the boats placed second to seventh-placed Interlodge. Racing could hardly be closer.
