Alegre win the penultimate race of the Scarlino Cup with Quantum Racing second in the strongest breeze of the five-day regatta. With Platoon back in eighth place, Alegre go into the last race with a five points margin ahead of them to first and behind them to third.
Andy Soriano’s team lead all the way round the course, a 2.2 mile upwind downwind loop. Quantum Racing got up from fourth to second on the first downwind. In the brisk breeze 13 to 16kts Azzurra split their spinnaker on the final run negating their gain from seventh to fourth, while Provezza also anulled a big gain, rising from fifth to challenge Quantum Racing for second at the final top mark. But they tacked too close to the regatta leaders and their resulting penalty dropped them to seventh across the finish. Gladiator made their best score so far with a good fifth while Rán gained from sixth to third.
