For the first time in recent memory the 52 SUPER SERIES is giving a windward-leeward course followed by short coastal course, all on the same day.
Winds are progressively increasing this week and today we should see up to 20kts and the prediction for the coastal race is that it can be quite bouncy and bumpy for the upwind and nice and quick for the downwind. Key will be the transition, physically and mentally, between the two race disciplines. Provezza tactician Tony Rey pays tribute to the unsung heroes in the support boats and their roles today can be important.
They are like your F1 pit crew, a little bit the unsung heroes, but they contribute as much to making sure it all works.
Tony Rey, tactician, Provezza
He says.
Winds today will be from the SE again, 120 degrees, 14kts is reported on the race course already.
The coastal course is 18 miles long down to the south around the Mortorio and Sofi islands with a fast run back up to the finish. That course should take up 90 minutes.
At the top the table Quantum Racing and Bronenosec are tied on 11 points, Doug deVos team are very much on their target of 4pts or less from each race. The Russian team have two back to back wins. And meantime Azzurra, carrying the home hopes, need to come back with a good day today after a disappointing seventh yesterday.
