Patience and focus will be required attributes for the BARCLAYS 52 SUPER SERIES crews at this first regatta of the European season, Rolex Capri Sailing Week.
Already this morning there has been a delay, racing postponed with the nine teams held ashore as the breezes are very light. They are forecast to be so for much of the week. And while the 52 crews enjoy the sunshine around the Capri Yacht Club, they might spare a thought for the crews of the Maxi fleet which are drifting slowly towards the finish of their Volcano Race offshore. The first boat should finish before the 52s start.
The wind for the afternoon is not exactly promising, 5-6kts, as the BARCLAYS 52 SUPER SERIES race officer Maria Torrijo reveals:
It is going to be very light all day. Every time I have been here it has been very light, just five to six knots, and we can expect that this week. We have to be patient, we might see some sea breeze. The forecast says the wind will come from the west but shifty, the afternoon maybe five knots at three or four o’clock.
