Another ideal Key West day: sunny, 10-16 knots, and three races to get to within just one race of tomorrow’s finish to the first US stop of the 2014 SuperSeries.
Race 7 was very fast by 52SuperSeries standards, only 47 minutes, which kept the action very close throughout. Having just broken free of the pack on the final run to the finish, Quantum scored their first victory by 24 seconds over Interlodge, who in turn were only 11 seconds ahead of Rán Racing, with Azzurra and Hooligan overlapped with them on an exciting photo finish.
Race 8 had a slight drop in pressure, and on the strength of a strong start – and avoiding the tacking duels between the leaders – Rán Racing managed to slip into the lead at the first mark and never look back, with the reigning World Champions scoring their second win of the series.
The key factor in Race 9 was Quantum Racing’s Doug DeVos luffing Azzurra and Rán Racing over the line at the start. These two closest contenders to Quantum’s lead were never able to dig back into the pack on the 5-leg course, allowing the green team to take the lead and never look back. A 2nd place for SLED was their best of the series thusfar.
The outstanding 1-2-1 performance by the reigning class champions today have put them 4 points clear of Rán Racing on the leaderboard.
