Niklas Zennstrom’s Rán Racing won their first race in the 52 SUPER SERIES at Quantum Key West regatta to earn an equal points share of the event lead along with Quantum Racing which finished fourth.
In the shifty breeze which averaged 14kts Rán Racing came in on a great shift with pressure to take the lead at the leeward gate, choosing the preferred left side gate mark looking upwind, easing ahead of Interlodge and Azzurra.
Quantum Racing found themselves on the wrong side of the big shifts on the first upwind, rounding the top mark first time up in sixth but they rallied to post a useful third behind Interlodge who have had the best day with their 1,2.
Reading the shifts best up the first leg was Takashi Okura’s Sled which lead around the WW1 mark.
Azzurra were in a tight duel for third with Quantum Racing when they hooked a lobster pot. Stopped for a minute or so they crossed fourth and lie two points off the lead.
