With owner Doug DeVos steering Quantum Racing extended their unbeaten record to three races here at the US 52 SUPER SERIES by winning today’s one dramatic five leg contest.
After a long delay while the race area was subjected to successive big rain squalls which pulled the breeze in many different directions, the race was started in what appeared to be a steady 12kts of NWly breeze.
The regatta leaders set their stall early as they hooked into the persistent left shift which advantaged them on the left. Quantum Racing was able to lead narrowly from Azzurra at the top mark with Ran Racing not far behind in third.
As the breeze shifted the downwind leg became more of a straight line reach, allowing the order to remain settled.
The second upwind was also more of a one sided drag race into a dramatic squall which brought torrential rain and winds to 20kts.
On the second run Ran Racing just lost touch with Azzurra when they broached momentarily.
Hooligan, on their second day on the US 52 SUPER SERIES sailed an error free day to score a creditable fourth place ahead of Sled and Interlodge which suffered with a trawled kite at the leeward gate.
