Azzurra punctured the Quantum Racing and Ran Racing dominance at the 32nd Copa del Rey MAPFRE when they won the second race today by a comfortable margin.
In a pleasingly brisk seabreeze of up to 17kts, Azzurra was able to lead off the start line as Quantum Racing and Ran Racing, the top two title contenders here, engaged at the right hand end of the start line. The Italian team, 52 SUPER SERIES champions of 2012, soon gained control of the favoured left side of the course and were able to win by a distance.
Manouch Moshayedi’s Rio took second place ahead of Ran Racing, while two place gains down the final run by Quantum Racing, reduced their losses to Ran Racing to just one single boat.
Quantum Racing lead into the final day by 5.5 pts ahead of Ran Racing. Azzurra lie third with Rio five points behind in fourth.
